I have a new psychologis so we're just getting started. I went last week because my PCP said he wanted to put me on antidepressants for anxiety. I know from the past that SSRI's make me MORE anxious and I didn't want to put myself through that again. He even suggested that I might have bi-polar because I was very anxious that day and talking a mile a minute.

My psychologist told me that in her opinion I have elevated norepinephrine, an overactive cingulate gyrus (OCD without the rituals) and a form of ADD -- Temperal Lobe ADD. She also said that all of this doesn't necessarily mean I'll have to be on medications. She figured out I wasn't sleeping well and told me to try Melatonin for awhile.

I'm reading some of what you guys are posting and I'm confused. I have noticed that some of you are also Bi-polar and one of the things that helped you find that is your inability to take antidepressants.

I have been told by 3 psychs that I do NOT have bi-polar. . .I guess I have a fear of that. . . because over the years I've developed a fear of meds because of how much trouble I have had with psych meds and also even cold meds.

Many years ago, I used meth on the weekends. And, my friends told me that they couldn't imagine me taking that because I'm so hyper already. But, I recall it almost calming me. . .with seems odd.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone can relate. I'm almost glad that my doctor described me as ADD because I know that to some extent that can be helped with suppliments and diet and lifestyle changes. I guess I have more of the "inattentive" type. The problem is my mind is always going on something, so it's hard for me to pay attention. Besides that, my memory is horrible. I'm forever telling a friend about something going on . . .forget I told them, and then tell them again.

My husband is ADD as well but he is quite different from me. His knee bounces when we sit in church for example. . . he is very calm in his speach. . . but he is forever losing things and not finishing things he starts. I feel like I have to nag him a lot.

My problem is I should be working and instead I find other more interesting things to do or think about. I have to really force myself not to go online and look up this or that when I should be doing my job. I sometimes worry I'm going to get myself into trouble that way.

Anyway, just looking for insight as this is all new to me. I always have thought this was just anxiety since I have struggled with anxiety and panic attacks for about 20 years.
