Hi,

My best friend thinks she is pregnant, and if she is she wants to give the baby up for adoption. She is under 18, so do her parents have to say it is ok?

No, she will have to make her own decisions reguarding the pregnancy/baby. Her parents cannot force her to do anything she isn't comfortable doing.

no she does not have to have parental permission.

16 is when you make your own decisions.
you cant be forced into anything that you dont want to do.
this is her choice now, her parents have to accept it.

Actually, Krystine, it is always a 'woman's' choice what to do with her body, no matter her age.

yes i know that, but if a girl younger was pregnant, i think they would encourage adoption rather than keep it.

My mom volunteers at the women's shelter near our town. My best friend and I have been there a few times, so we know how life could turn out if one of us had a baby before we knew how to pay for our own bills and things like that. For that reason and many others, if my friend is pregnant, she is definitely going to give it up for adoption.

That is a good choice. Is there a planned parenthood office near you? If she can get there (you can go with her), she can get a FREE pregnancy test. If she is pregnant, they can counsel her on what to do. If she is not pregnant, it would be a good idea to get some birth control (you too).

Good luck. Please let us know what happens.

Yes ma'am, we sure will. Smile

She's so freaked out that it will be a long time before she does anything again, if you get my meaning, and I was so scared for her I don't want to do anything, either!
