Q: ADHD - Adderall dosage ?

I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (the inattentive type) just recently. I am 19 and in college. I have been to several different physiatrists through my college.
. The first put me on 10 mg of Adderall 2 times daily. I felt a huge difference the first day, i was very happy with the results. A few days passed and i noticed myself not paying attention or able to focus once again.
. A week later i saw a second doctor, he prescribed me more adderall but instead of upping the dosage of the individual pill he only told me to take a 3rd one daily. Again, this only worked mondays, when i didnt take it on sundays. I did however start to gain all the side affects without the help i was looking for.
. Three or four days later i called my original doctor frustrated and confused and he advised me to take 15 mg's two times daily and a 10 mg later in the day. I found the 15 mg to work most of the time, but my side affects worsened and depression kicked in. My mother threatened to pull me out of college because she was concerned.
. Go figure i returned yesterday and had to see a new doctor between his patients that day. I thought he knew what he was talking about. I was relieved when he suggested the Adderall XR. Come to find out he forgot to write what mg's it was supposed to be. In the end i had to go to the student health center and she wrote me a prescription to take one 10 mg adderall xr 2 times daily. I have tried it today and i feel no change other then lessened side affects.

My question is this, how exactly do you know what does is right for you? Do you always feel/ notice it working? Am i wrong thinking that maybe my adderall xr dose should be higher? No matter what i do i cant seem to get a clear answer from any of the doctors here that is as same as the one before.

ADHD
Hi there
First of all; ADHD is not caused by a lack of drugs. Therefor drugs only suppress symptoms and don't do anything to the underlying cause of the problem. Which is allergies, and in particular, allergies to dairy products. (See; ADHD and dairy)
See; www.notmilk .com. The hyper activity stems from the release of Adrenalin, typical in allergic reactions. The attention defecit is caused by a spinal misalignment in the upper part of the neck, usually on the right side. If you palpate (Feel) around that area you will find a sore spot. Get a competent chiropractor to manipulate this. Should only be one treatment. Tell him that. Fight & Flight Syndrome. Let's understand the problem of Stress :
When ever we consume an allergen an in-built protective mechanism of our body called the Stress Alert System is put on. In this there are a series of sympathetic & other reactions in the body to face the danger in a concerted way. The response brought about by this alert-system is called the Fight or Flight Response.

The Stress Alert System :
When the danger signal reaches our brain, then in a split second it is sent to the rest of our body through its various networks. The message goes to two channels :-
1. To the Voluntary Nervous System : This part of our nervous system directs our skeletal system to contract, we thus get the feeling of churning of legs etc. With about 1,030 separate skeletal muscles in our body - almost half our body weight, that's a lot of tension. Responses like clenching of fists etc are seen to face the threat, or the body gets ready to retreat.
2. To the Autonomic Nervous System : This part of our nervous system controls all the involuntary functions of our body. This system on it's part has two subdivisions. The Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and the Para-sympathetic Nervous System (PNS), which are like the fire alarm and the calming down mechanism of the body respectively.
(a) The SNS commands release of various hormones in the body like the adrenaline, noradrenalin, glucocorticoids etc. through our various endocrine glands, like the pituitary & adrenal. Together these hormones increase our heartbeats & blood pressure at times by 100% (to increase the blood supply), breathing becomes faster (to increase the intake of oxygen), throat muscles and nostrils open wider, pupils dilate and eyes alertly stare. The hormones stop the secretion of saliva & mucus, and the process of digestion temporarily halts (conserving precious energy). Sugar is released from liver (for instant energy), subcutaneous fat is also released into the blood stream (for greater energy). More fat (cholesterol) is produced by the liver for fuel. Sweating increases thus decreasing the temperature of the body. (b) The PNS calms, relaxes & slows down the body. When the SNS is activated then for obvious reasons the PNS is inhibited simultaneously. In other words the brain shuts down its primary calming mechanism to force you to remain alert & ready to face the threat. What causes the 'problem' of stress? - Short doses of such responses has its own excitement value, it is in fact a blessing. It alone gives the kick to life, and helps bring about the memorable moments. If the danger is short-lived then the body quickly reverts back to its normal state through its PNS. But the problem is that by that time the allergen gets consumed again the high level of stress-inducing hormones in the system continues to remain in the blood stream. The normal functioning of heart, blood pressure etc continues to be affected. It is only then that the various physical, psychological & behavioral problems come which could make life a hell - literally. It is this aspect of stress which has to be warded off. And the only way to do that is by total avoidance of the allergen. Dairy is not the only culprit. Potato has similar allergenic effects, as does food colouring, peanuts, eggs, MSG, and even chlorine in drinking water, showers and swimming pools. If you can smell chlorine in swimming pools it has reached dangerous levels, and you should get the hell out of there. See; 'ADHD and chlorine".
The medication you are on has side effects. We call them allergic reactions. They need to be avoided. This is something that happens often. The medication for a particular problem causes the problem it was designed to cure. Give it a miss.
Short doses of such responses has its own excitement value, it is in fact a blessing. It alone gives the kick to life, and helps bring about the memorable moments. If the danger is short-lived then the body quickly reverts back to its normal state through its PNS. But the problem comes when because of some reason or the other (this will be analyzed in our subsequent sections) the high level of stress-inducing hormones in the system continues to remain in the blood stream. The normal functioning of heart, blood pressure etc continues to be affected. It is only then that the various physical, psychological & behavioral problems come which could make life a hell - literally. It is this aspect of stress which has to be warded off. It is only the longer periods of stress that creates problems.

USE FOR OR NOT For, certain medicines!! (This is a comment )
I Think! This POST; is extremely important whether, you must use Stimulant's such as ADDERALL, or any other of Medical Big PHarma. has out there. For or For any other reason's whether that DOCTOR agrees or not...
Knowing your own bodies 'SYSTEMS' and why they idle higher or lower at certain times, "while using any medicine is as at least 100X's more important then why your automobile might have any symptoms 'using *High Octane,Low Octane, or any additive to the engine. Sometimes I notice if I use something different then normal or recommended for my auto. That the engines cooling fan,(which is triggered by a thermostat)seems to be over active. Sometimes staying on long after I've shut the engine completely off. Even in cooler temps, like in the Fall or colder weather, etc.Which in turn may use enough of my battery to cause a jump start when I go to use it again, or it may of started, but then the alternator may have to work harder having to recharge the 'battery to the new levels needed by the new drain caused by the extra cooling needed on the 'Engine due to the over heating caused by a certain product(may be exp.ST P's new higher octane aditive.etc.) And with a higher octane Gasoline??
All these 'Systems' over or under working is my point of my comment. Only to help "me" think or any one else whom might think about the similar comparison or even as how we will go as far as we care (more) about our Auto-Engines, then our own, bodies systems..Also the willingness many of us have. The willingness to listen or read our autos Manuel's, more then the interactions of medications. Be it long term or short term. I'm not advocating the use of or the none use of, any medicine. From my own personal exp. I know that one medicine is in the over all big picture better for me then a alternative measure "I may" use in place of a prescription that a so called "DOCTOR" may not see due to his limited problem of being in the same shoes as another. I feel a truly interested DOCTOR, who is willing to listen to a patient. And I mean having a type of conversation that is more out in the parking lot as a real Helping Healer then that ""Doctor image"", that sticks or inhibits a patient from speaking of "Whats Up and Whats making 'Hell for this Patient.
Personally I believe in the long term, that this type of "Care and Concern" From The "HEALING? MEDICAL COMUNNITY" will start to see a improving heath care system, then if it isn't even changed , except in my personal CONCERNS, FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALL" isn't that really what its all about any way. By the way, My engine has 70,000 miles and I change the oil every 2,500 miles.
It appears to many mechanic's that I'll have a (if I continue to take care)engine that just might last me a long life, If i Choose to keep it??
