Hi everyone!
I'm 50 years old, hit menopause 2 years ago after the removal of one cystic ovary. Back then, I was also told that my x-rays revealed a very thick endometrium - indicating adenomyosis - which explained the horrendous bleeding (including huge clots), bloating, cramps, etc. I'd put up with for so long.
I hoped that menopause would have solved it all. At least the bleeding totally stopped, but the bloating, pressure, cramps and general misery have only grown worse. I've even gained a fair bit of weight around the belly, and it hurts if I wear anything apart from sloppy tracksuit bottoms.
So I had an ultrasound this morning. Apparently the adenomysis is still present, despite the lack of bleeding. Go figure! My uterus is apparently very misshapen, no doubt from years of this wretched condition. It is pushing onto my other organs (especially my bowel, making poo-ing difficult) and generally making life very miserable.
But how odd that I should still have adenomyosis without any bleeding. Could it be simply the "aftermath" of years of suffering the condition? Has anyone else heard of this condition in menopause?
Anyway, I'm seeing my doctor next week to discuss the results. I desperately want a hysterectomy. I badly want this toublesome uterus out of my system, so I can (hopefully) leap back into life! It's been weighing me down both physically and emotionally for too long now.
But my appointment next week seems like an eternity away...hopefully in the meantime, some people here can shed a bit of light!
