Q: Adderall Addiction - Help with Options

Hi. I am a professional female in my late 30s and have been addicted to adderall for close to 7 years. I do not have ADD or ADHD - and sought out adderall to help conquer the unrelenting desire to take daily naps - which YES ... is probably related to depression. I had also been on zoloft for many years until i decided to get off --- ever so slowly ---- with success.

While I have always been someone more of the "tired" side - adderall instantly provided me with the physical and mental stamina to manage my life.

Currently I typically take between 60-120mgs daily .... its the first thing i seek out in the morning. While I have tried, a few times, to quit - the first day or two have always been unbearable .... I literally could not and had no interest to get out of bed. In fact, I had no energy or interest to do anything -- I felt awful ....

SO .... I have finally realized and accepted my addiction and want to find out 'the best plan for getting off adderall ....." no matter what I must do.

My questions are:

Is it best to find an inpatient detox center to check into for a week or two? While I certainly dont like the idea -- I can definately see the benefit of being out of my environment - in a place where I cant decide by day 2 that its too difficult ..
or

is it best to find a local psychologist and medical doc to see during this time?

I just want to find out what treatment plan facilitate the highest rate of success ....... as you can probably tell .. I just want to put this behind me .....

Any info would be appreciated

Well, addiction is a tricky one. If you insurance company supports it, I'd suggest a 28-day rehab. You can detox first, and then you'll be taught the best ways to cope with addiction...and start on the road toward learning more about yourself. Of course, not everyone does this. But, it worked for me.

Can you take time off work? Does insurance cover drug addiction?

Also, I'm proud of you for being ready to face it. It takes a while to get to the point when enough is enough.

Baby, you are dying from such a horrible addiction! I have been addictied to adderall since I was 18 and now i'm 23 and still struggling! The fact that you get up to 120 mgs scares the hell out of me!! I'm also on zoloft as well but the fact that you are abusing adderall...your zoloft can't work for you babe!! My prayers are with you and all of the other adderall addicts in the world because we can only understand each other!! ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT CHRIST JESUS LOVES YOU!!
