Acute retroviral syndrome on PEP ?
Avatar
hi, I'm 21 and had an accident involving pleural liquid and my non-intact skin with an hiv patient about 2 weeks ago, my doctor said the risk was basically nonexistant, and he prescripted me with only 15 days of combivir (lamiduvine zidovudine) which I'm about to finish. I'm extra-worried now because @ 2 weeks of my exposure I developed a flu (and I rarely do) full with coughing, sneezing, runny nose and some lymph nodes in my neck one at the left and a cople at the right.

my question is; while still on PEP is it possible to develop acute retroviral syndrome? am I worrying too much?

I am sorry to hear about your ordeal. I have tried to google "pleural liquid" without much success. I am glad you got some combivir. You may be having side effects of the medication. You will have to be tested anyway. I am concerned about the lymph nodes. I don't have much experience with PEP and so I am sorry I am afraid I cannot answer your question.

All the best
