Q: Acne treatment options

I have been suffering with acne for more than 10 years now. I am 22 years old. When I was much younger, the acne was much worse; it affected my entire face. As an adult, it is less severe. It primarily concentrated on both sides of my face. I do sleep on my side with my face pressed against my pillow. I change my pillow cases regularly, wash them.... It is frustrating because I cannot sleep on my back. If I sleep on my back I experience sleep paralysis ( a very unique phenomena where I awaked during REM sleep in a state of paralysis.

I have tried clearisel ( generic brands), Proactive, and a prescription called "fougera clindamycin phosphate Gel" equivalent to 1% clindamycin. Nothing works.

Does steaming your face over boiling water really help to open poors? Can I use hydrogen peroxide on my face? I'm also very frustrated that I recieve contradictory advice throughout the net. Some sources will claim that diet is a factor. A carefully diet plan is laid out with very precise explanations of how and why the diet would work. Then I visit another source that says diet has absolutley nothing to do with it. I have also discovered sources that suggest applying toothpaste as an ever night remedy, and then other sites say not to do this.

Over the week, I started to open my poor with steam, and applying hydrogen peroxide afterwards. Then I apply the topical gel ( fougera...... 1% clindamycin........ ) at night, before bed.

I thought of seeing a dermatologist. It's rather expensive though, so I've been putting it off. I'm hoping to find some simpler way to deal with my acne. I want to know what some of the best over-the-counter treatments are; and if there are any interesting home remedies that I could try. I've been opening my poors using steam and then applying hydrogen peroxide. I am informed that hydrogen peroxide is good at killing bacteria.
