Hi im soon to have ACL surgery on my left knee and get part of my meniscus trimmed- bucket handle tear. Im only 18 and used to compete as a sprinter/ runner. This is my first ever injury of this nature and Im just wondering if anyone has some advice. I really want to get back to 100% fitness and get to a national level, this may sound optimistic I know!! I understand the necessity to keep the muscles around the knee strong as an aid in recovery and keep the knee moving as much as possible to reduce the impact of scar tissue. I also realise I need to be patient in my recovery. However I really want to hear from other people who have been through similar surgery about their results. Did you regain 100% movement? how long did it take to recover?
Is there any point trying to get private treatment?I've read on another post how the doc messed up the surgery.
I'm just really nervous at the moment and would really appreciate honest advice. Thanks

Our son had major surgery like this done on him at 20 years old...He had this in September and was ready to pitch again in April...It is a lengthy healing process...You must do what the Orthodepist tells you...Therapy is important...Knee went back to where it should be and never failed him...Good luck....

Thanks for the advice. Its reasurring to hear that your son recovered fully. Did he have both ACL reconstruction and surgery on the meniscus?
Thanks
