I had my gallbladder removed a week ago, but I'm having symptoms that I think may be unrelated to that. I was diagnosed with acid reflux a few weeks ago. They did an upper GI x ray and it showed im refluxing, but only in a laying position, not when I'm upright. Here are my symptoms, and they started about 2 months ago. Tightness/pressure in chest (sometimes feels like heartburn), occasional phlem in throat, gaggy feeling that comes and goes, nauseated/upset stomach. I sometimes have all the symptoms at once, and sometimes its just one symptom. The phlem is only occasional. Its not every day, but every now and then I'll feel this lump feeling in my throat and I will attempt to hack it up and sometimes there is nothing, and other times I will cough up some phlem. The chest tightness is only occasional as well and sometimes I feel it all the way through to my shoulder blades. It feels tight as though someone is sitting on my chest, but other times it will feel more like heartburn pain and it usually subsides after a little while. Sometimes it even feels like I got the wind knocked out of me a little. I also have a queasy stomach that comes and goes. I seriously don't know what's going on with me. It all began about 3 months ago and got more and more frequent. They found my gallbladder wasn't functioning and I had it removed, but I'm still having these other symptoms. What could be going on? These symptoms are really starting to make me mad. Just 3-4 months ago, I was totally normal. These symptoms are beginning to make it hard for me to even enjoy life anymore because I'm always afraid I'm going to begin feeling sick while I'm out doing things. I will note..these symptoms got worse around the time I was feeling stressed about a trip I was going on. I have a hiatal hernia, but they said its a very minor one and they said I've had it probably since I had my first child 6 years ago, so if I've had the hiatal hernia/arid reflux, why is it just recently really starting to bother me? Please help me figure out what's wrong!!!

Your symptoms are characteristic for someone suffering from a acid reflux.
A burning sensation that radiates up from the stomach to the chest and throat, or heartburn is the main symptom.
Feeling fullness in the stomach, nausea after eating, chest sensations like food trapped behind the breast bone and chest pains that may radiate to the back, chronic sore throat with feeling of nodule in your throat, and constant need to clear your throat, are symptoms of acid reflux.
Hiatal hernia is a predisposing factor for developing acid reflux, but, lifestyle, medications, diet, eating habits, all contribute for this.
It;s good to know that many patients after the gallbladder removal experience nausea as very dominant symptom, which belongs to a post gallbladder removal syndrome.

Best wishes!

I'm confused though..why did these symptoms just begin within the last few months? I've never struggled with it before and it all begin around November. They said I've probably had the hiatal hernia for awhile and they said its very minor. Also..the x rays only showed that I was refluxing while in a laying position so why am I having these symptoms when I'm upright? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I'd suggest that you concentrate on controlling the symptoms now that you have a diagnosis. Acid reflux can be treated with some lifestyle changes. Check it out:
