I'm 22 years old and after a year of stomach pain and bloody stool (which was first diagnosed as ulcers) i had a colonoscopy done and a large polyp was removed from my colon. The doctor told me that it's unusual for someone my age to get them but there's family history that shows colon cancer runs in my family. The polyp was removed and when i got my test results back i was relieved when the doctor told me it wasnt cancerous. I'm still suppose to go back for a colonoscopy every year.

Right after i had my colonoscopy done the doctor told me i should also get an endoscopy done to check for acid reflux and barrett's syndrome. I wasnt concerned at all because i've never experienced any problems associated with acid reflux before in my life. A week after the colonoscopy i woke up one day with a sore throat. I thought i was just getting sick. I went for the endoscopy and the doctor said that everything looked fine but i have a slight case of acid reflux. He asked how bad the pain was and if i wanted he could prescribe me something for it. I didn't feel the need for meds considering at that point there was barely anything and it didn't bother me.

Well the past 9 months my acid reflux has worsened and i'm on prilosec twice a day. It only seems to get worse with time and i'm really concerned that i might end up with Barrett's. My throat is so sore when i swallow, i have an acid taste in my mouth, chronic cough, dry mouth and asthma. I'm going to see a doctor again in a few weeks.

**What i would like to know is how (if at all) is acid reflux and colon polyps connected??

Did he know the fact that you are asthmatic?
Have you been diagnosed with some inflammatory lesions of your colon during the colonoscopy?

At least half of asthmatic patients also have GERD or acid reflux.
