accepting and living with ugliness Posted: 04-16-08 04:13am
Hello, I noticed people posting on this
subject and wanted to ask if anyone has
any advice on how to accept ugliness: I'm
41 years old (male) and have never
approached a member of the opposite sex,
due to ugliness and lack of confidence
from being passed over and ignored
outright for years...this is confirmed and
validated each time I look in the mirror:
I don't blame people for their
reaction...I will get plastic surgery when
my financial situation permits, but for
now if I am to move past, or get over
this, I'm going to have to accept it and
I'm having tremendous difficulty doing
this...does anyone have a "magic phrase"
or words of inspiration/wisdom to impart,
until I have money to get my face fixed?
Thank you, Drumlicks

You know, I've always believed that our
personal standard of beauty for ourselves
is much, much more harsh than the standard
that other people impart on us. 90% of why
people think or don't think we're
attractive has to do with confidence, a
sense of humour and passion. 10% is
physical. Unfortunately it's normally that
10% that most people focus on as a first
impression. However, having said this, you
just have to learn to be confident.
Believe me, it is a learning process. And
if you are as ugly as you say you are
(which I don't believe because people
critique themselves far too harshly),
maybe plastic surgery is an option...
maybe a little mini makeover? Or getting
in shape? These are all things that can
boost your confidence, but you have to
remember that simply changing your looks
won't do it. You have to develop the other
90% of what makes up attraction!
