My mother is 75 years old and has a very strong history of anxiety and depression. The past few years we've been noticing extreme memory loss and behavior changes, i.e. temper tantrums of throwing things or hitting. She has been to 5 psychiatrists in the past year, spent 2 weeks in a psychiatric ward because she was out of control and has had several MRI's which came back normal. We've only heard the word "dimentia", but never Alzheimers or any other kind. This past August she fell down the steps and broke her wrist. She had to have it operated on, but we made sure we spoke to the anesthesiologist to inform him not to give her anything harsh because of her dimentia before she was operated on. She also had another MRI which came back normal. She seems to be declining by the day since then. My dad took her to Florida to visit my sister, and she doesn't believe she is her daughter. She is hallucinating, doesn't make any sense when she talks, she thinks she has 3 children and only has 2. Tonight she through such a temper tantrum because she said she wants her son (she doesn't have a son and thinks we are lying). She doesn't seem to believe anything we tell her and started throwing objects and kicking my brother-in-law. She had to be restrained until the police were called and took her to the hospital in handcuffs. Last night I spoke with her and all she did was laugh at everything I told her. Didn't believe I was her daughter or that I was married and had children. Told me I am a sweet girl and we should have lunch some time...very disconnected. What is this???? No one seems to be giving us any answers!
