I am 21 and have always been weight conscious. Regrettably I began using laxatives on a regular basis to keep my weight down. Now it seems I cannot make a movement without them. I have been eating all kinds of fiber and drinking more water but I still am consitpated unless I take a laxative. Is there anything else I can do? I almost went to the emergency room not long ago because I was in so much pain. Thanks!

You need to wean yourself from the laxatives, as you can seriously harm your colon over time. Your doctor can order Miralax for you, temporarily, but ultimately, you need to get off of the laxatives.

In addition to weaning yourself off of laxatives, you might also consider seeing a therapist regarding your self-medication to lose weight.

Hi I read your post and one thing that some doctors say can help with constipation is exercise. The way that I do it is I drink a cup of hot coffee (sugar and cream of course) and do about 10 to 15 crunches immediately afterwards. This helps to get my digestive tract and colon working and then about 2 or 3 minutes later natue calls. And take the doc's advice leave the laxitives alone. Hope this helps
