Q: About to quit smoking

I have been smoking for four years now. I smoke half a pack a day, but I am now ready to quit. I have tried before and failed because I couldn't handle the side effects, and my friends were basically begging me to quit because I was so irritable. I want to quit because I am about to have knee surgery and want to be as healthy as I can for it. I also want to quit because I hate the way other people look at me, and I have heard that second hand smoking can kill animals, and I don't want my dog to die because of me. I am scared however, that I won't be able to deal with the stress, and that I will fail again or turn to self-harming (which is what I did do before I started smoking). Anybody have any advice?

I hope you have not smoked since your last message. I think it is very worth it to quit for your health. The cravings pass after a certain amount of time, so you can do it. There is plenty of medicine available and they work well for cravings. Good luck.
