regret
I had an abortion (because I was terrified) when I was 19, that was 1985. It took me nearly 20 years to let go of the pain, guilt and regret of me killing my baby. If I could go back in time, I would've kept the baby!

To the OP: Not everyone aborts for "social" reasons. I have two beautiful children as well, but I am pro-choice. It is very possible to be pro-choice AND a parent. I recognize it is NOT my place to tell any other woman what she should do in regards to her fertility.
To Sheilamurphy123: I am terribly sorry you regret your abortion. Abortion is a very difficult decision to make and should not be made lightly. Many others on here regret their abortions as well BUT there are also many women who do not.

You can't go back in time, and it's nice for you to think how things would have worked out differently if you hadn't aborted. But you were terrified for a reason, and you were probably right. So it's easy to say you should have had the kid instead, but there's plenty of people who had the kid and say (if only to themselves) that they should have aborted.

I love how women who regret abortions are so ignorant to the fact that if they are sexually active, their bodies are aborting left and right every month.

This maybe true their are times when a womans body aborts a pregnancy but it certainly is NOT every month. And they feel bad because they and not fate had to make a life changing decision i feel sorry for any woman who has to make this choice and do not judge either way so please be more sensitive to their feelings in this matter you are of course intitled to your opiion but unless you've been in this situation you cannot possibly understand.(I have not) so i try to put myself in their position to avoid making mean comments

Thats like saying women who are raped and sexually active are full of crap for feeling grief over the rape because it was just sex. A spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) is done AGAINST your will it is FORCED on you it is not something you choose. I think its hurtful, shameful and inhumane to even bring that up as a defense for abortions.

To women who had a miscarriage but would never intentionally have an abortion,mYOU did not abort your child, YOU did not have an abortion an abortion was FORCED upon you and it is not your fault. WOmen who miscarry are NOT always teh same as women who waltz into a clinic and get an abortion.

You do know there's a difference between intentional killing and natural death, right? And not all abortions occur when they're fertilized eggs!

I aborted 21 years ago and have no regrets. I will do it again in a New York Minute should I ever conceive again.

AND FYI..

A fertilized egg cannot be aborted because a fertilized egg is NOT a pregnancy until it has implanted into the uterus. Many a fertilized eggs are discarded naturally for a variety of reason. You've got to be kidding me to think a uterus sheds NINE times a month. Seriously thats impossible. The endometrial lining doesn't get thick enough in one month to shed that many times, which it would have to do to spontaneously abort *miscarry* otherwise there are severe medical repercussions, including infertility to having a womb chock full of dead embryos, zygotes and fetuses every month,m every year until you conceive and give birth or abort.

You misunderstand. The point is that for every SUCCESSFUL pregnancy, around 9 terminate spontaneously, usually before the women even realised she was "pregnant". A late period, for instance, is quite likely a very early miscarriage.

Around 9 terminate spontaneously? It does happen, but can you provide a source that shows that these are actual spontateous abortions, rather than the body expelling the fertilized eggs before reaching the uterus? Because seriously. That's a lot of miscarriages.

Why the " " you can't be kinda pregnant you either are or aren't. Either the embryo implanted in the uterus or it failed to do so.

The number of spontaneous abortions are below that. There is a 20% chance of becoming pregnant each cycle when you have sex without any form of contraceptive, including such methods as pulling out. After 5 months of trying you should get pregnant. You're considered in need of a lil fertility help if its been 6 months and NO pregnancy. You're considered full on infertile if you've been having unprotected sex for a year without conception, 9 miscarriages would put you over a yearbecause you can't miscarry two months straight. The endometrial lining would take time to regenerate, your hormones would take time to get back into whack so to speak and you wouldn't start releasing mature eggs so soon. You'd have a blank period or two following a miscarriage. Very rarely is there an exception to this rule though I'm sure exceptions occur, it is NOT the norm to miscarry 9 times before conceiving once.

Sorry, that includes eggs that are fertilised that don't implant. That statistic is aimed at the anti-birth control extremists who think that the pill works by aborting, or who are against Plan B, which stops fertilised eggs from implanting.

Gah! I hate that word "implant".

This is inaccurate - in a healthy, fertile couple it can take up to a year to conceive - if you don't conceive within a year of TTCing it does not mean that you're infertile. It's around this point they would tend to do further investigations but just because there's around a 20% chance of pregnancy each cycle doesn't mean you will be pregnant in 5 months if you're fertile lol that's not how it works!

Fact is 85-90% of abortions are for social reasons. The vast majority abort for social reasons.

My point should be obvious if you read and understood what I responded to. She said "not everyone aborts for social reasons" so the fact that 85-90% of abortions are for social reasons is relevant in ANY language.

What was YOUR point in responding?

Last I checked a year is 12 months right and I said that you are considered full on infertile if you have NOT gotten pregnant in a year of having unprotected sex. THIS IS FROM THE CDC LINK TO PAGE FOLLOWS:

"a married couple is classified as ‘‘infertile’’ if they have not used contraception and not become pregnant for 12 months or more." http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_23/ sr23_025.pdf and that would be page 33 Impaired fecundity is assumed after 6 months and no pregnancy. You don't have to have an abortion to know about fertility, impaired fecundity and infertility.
