I have chosen to have an abortion, I am only 5 weeks since my last period and I know I have two options, medical or surgical. I would like to know which is less painful and has less long term effects. I am leaning towards medical because of the privacy it offers and because I am terrified of surgery, but if the medical option is going to make me feel very sick for a very long period of time, I would suck it up and go surgical. How long does the pain and sickness last after the surgical procedure? How long does the pain and sickness last after the medical? and most importantly, which is safer and more effective? I would prefer only pro-choice comments, any others please leave your comments to yourself. Thanks!

Ok, i had a medical abortion a month ago and i too am deathly afriad of surgury.
There are different ways of taking the medicines for medical abortion and that will depend on the clinic you go to.
But for me, i took one pill the day of my visit to the clinic, and four pills vaginally the next night.
I started bleeding faily soon after i took the four pills, however it is possible for you to start bleeding before. The first day you i bleed was pretty painful, like bad period cramps. I bleed for about a week and a half after that and by three weeks when i went for my follow up appointment i had completely stopped bleeding and the abortion was complete.
I ADVISE YOU TO DO THIS. Yes, your cramps will be bad the first day, and you may have cramping the following day (i didnt, and i have a low tolerence for pain)but it was not all that bad.
If you have any more questions, id be happy to answer because i know i was freaking out when i had to go through it.
