YES YES YES. It is important because the doctor will need to make sure that the abortion method used worked. Sometimes parts of the abortion are still left in the body or the fetus dies but is NOT aborted. Both of these situations can cause massive infections that CAN kill you. Also, the doctor will need to check for damage to the uterus. It is rare to have uterine damage from an abortion, but the risk is still there.
Both infection and damage to the uterus are uncommon, however the reason you go BACK to your doctor is to make sure that you are not suffering from either (both infections and uterine damage can kill you, if severe enough).
