Should aborted fetal tissue be harvested for stem cell research?
Of course! Why waste something that would do so much good?
Of course not! That would be validating the slaughter of unborn innocents.

Q: abortion & stem cells

These two topics are quite interrelated, with an equal amount of passionate controversy about both. I posted my thoughts about stem cells over in the appropriate section, but I wanted to ask about it here as well. Whether you approve of abortion or not, don't you think it would be wise to use the fetuses for stem cell research? I mean, don't they just throw those in an incinerator? I plan to donate my whole body to medical science when I die, so who's to say those poor little unborn babies wouldn't be just as generous as I am? Please vote in the poll!

I don't see why a dead fetus should be held more sacred than a dead adult. Either way, the deceased individual no longer has need of these cells and it's no more an abomination to donate fetal cells to medical science than it is to donate post-birth ones.

Sometimes I think certain prolife individuals have some kind of odd fetus-worshiping cult happening. They certainly seem to elevate the importance of them over the rest of humanity.

I agree with Darkmoon.

I've heard that if they start doing that, it'll up the abortion numbers. Why? Are women really going to get pregnant on purpose just so they can get that abortion to help the stem cells along? I don't think so.

I agree 100% but I also think that a woman should make a consent to donate, just like it would be a choice to donate your own body.

I think they should use criminals bodies for science as well, I know some places do already but it should be done more often:P.

I have to disagree with you diamondsz. Garbage becomes the property of whomever wants it the moment it leaves your curb. These fetuses are discarded so I don't think consent should be required.
I think it would be foolish not to use the stem cells from these aborted fetuses. It only makes sense to make the most of a situation.
As for the pro-life groups, I can only imagine that people fear that science and technology will enable some type of artificial womb or something that will allow doctors/ scientists unlimited fetuses for experimentation and to harvest stems cells. I can only guess it's something that bizarre because the idea that using these stem cells will increase the number of abortions is crazy! I don't know of any woman who is willing to end a pregnancy just so a stranger can have the stem cells. The few times that anything like this has happened (when a child had a serious disease and could benefit from stem cells), the women actually gave birth to and raised the child.

Um, no, usually pro-lifers who are against donating dead fetuses to science are ALSO against human body donation of any kind. I am not one of these type of pro-lifers, but this doesn't make them fetus worshippers because they mostly feel the same way about the born.
