Q: Abortion risks life of mother

A woman who had a terrible time during the delivery of her first child almost died. She had MANY blood transfusions and she and the baby almost lost their lives. Fortunately the baby lived and after quite a few grueling months of recovery, the woman was well enough to take care of her child. The doctor tells her "if you ever get pregnant again, you WILL DIE. You will not be able to carry the child, and you both will D.I.E".... The woman gets on birth control and she and her husband use caution and protection every time they have intercourse. Lets say the birth control does not work and OOOPs, she gets pregnant again. Knowing she will die, should she try to carry this pregnancy anyway? Or I.F she was able to carry full term but chances are 99% that she will hemmorage and bleed to death, and the baby lives, the child now has no mother. Can you pro-lifers actually sit at your computer, picturing this real life scenario and tell everyone that this woman should N.O.T abort? Knowing she and her child will more than likely not make it? Or if she is able to carry full term but she will die and leave the child without a mother? I knew a woman who went through this. Like I have said and will keep on saying, YOU HAVE GOT TO STEP OUT OF THE BOX AND LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE.. Come on people, seriously....

Yes they can tell you that, and some will. Some do not give a damn about the mother OR the child. They will argue that the mother should face the consequences, that she should of abstained from having sex, that "just because" the mother will die doesn't mean an innocent life should. They'll give you countless meaningless reasons.

I'm pro-choice and situations like this only help strengthen my beliefs. There are pro-lifers that will accept an abortion in a situation like this, however, some will fight against abortion no matter what the reason.

This situation is so clear as day that it's almost comical - but an extreme pro-lifer would say differently.

You died but came back? So, you're Jesus? I'm glad you're okay and everything, I'd just like more information.

She probably means she was pronounced clinically dead but they successfully resuscitated her.

Some "prolifers" view women as expendable breeding fodder and would advocate that women in that kind of situation martyr themselves rather than preserve their lives or health. Fortunately such hateful troglodytes tend to hole up together in one place and are easily told apart from prolifers that are actually...you know...prolife (instead of only profetal life even if it's a doomed cause).

It should always be up to the woman whether the risk is worth taking. Attempts to force her to endure such risks is just glorified attempted homicide.

Obviously; it's definitely the woman's choice in the case where her health is at risk.

Some pro-lifers think she shouldn't have had sex in the first place, as it is only to be used for procreation.

What? That's weird. None of the ones I know believe that. Have you actually met someone that said that, or are you making that up???

Goodness yes, several pro-lifers on this forum feel that sex is only for procreation.

Because that's how they've been told to think. That's how they've been told to interpret the bible.

Funny how you just asked us if we've ever heard of abstinence. Change your mind much?

Obviously there shouldn't be any shunning of a woman who makes the choice to abort in this situation. I'd like to smack the doctor who didn't suggest a hysterectomy though.

Actually just a little FYI

I hemmoraged after the birth of both kids although with my daughter it was severe, I wasnt allowed to hold her much less allowed to do anything I was told to sleep and was knocked out at one point. Giving birth can be just as dangerous as any surgical proceudre but I think as long as you are informed and inform the doctor the chances are better. My son is one hell of a healthy baby and they gave me oxytocin right after he came out just in case but they said it wasnt that bad.

Giving birth/carrying to full term is proven to be MORE DANGEROUS than aborting early-term.

That is for sure! If a women was in such a situation your right the dr should have suggested tubes tied or a hysterectomy not bc.

But if that happened it is one of the few places I would agree with abortion. That would be up to the women. Me, myself I would carry the baby and risk it. Even if I wasn't there it would still have a loving careing family and maybe a new mother some day.

I am 24 even if you ask to have your tubes tied they will refuse, they feel I dont know what I want and after two kids and many doctors I have been refused. As for a hysterectomy unless they deem it an emergency then you are on a waiting list for months, that is candian health care but then again we dont pay for nothing.

Quick question if anyone knows, can you still enjoy sex (orgasm)after a hysterectomy?
