Abortion at 20 weeks

20 week old baby could live on its own, you chose a procedure to end its life! that you should feel bad about! birth control is a much better choice. I get mad at my 2 year old, if it was easier on my life should i choose to end her life?

I understand your stance, really, I do. But your opinions and/or thoughts on late term abortions (or any abortion, for that matter) don't belong in this particular forum.
You are free to post your thoughts/opinions in the pro-choice forum (since you are pro-choice) or the abortion debate forum.

A few points to make:
-Birth control is not 100% (I know from experience, my birth control failed and my second or third time having sex with my now-husband resulted in my son)
-not just teens abort late-term, married women do too!
-tubal ligations are not even 100% (I have had an ectopic pregnancy as a result from a failed tubal ligation, so I know from experience, as well)
-a teen will have sex regardless of teaching abstinence, therefore it is far better to teach PROTECTION, and if that protection fails, THEN they DO have the choice to parent, adopt out, or abort
-some women don't know that a particular form of birth control will be ineffective for them UNTIL they get pregnant, unexpectedly
-some women cannot take hormonal birth control, and sure, there are condoms, however, condoms are not 100% effective
-some women are just plain unlucky, they cannot take hormonal birth control for medical reasons, and they are allergic to latex condoms (me) and well, let me tell you, sheepskin condoms and "natural" condoms are EXPENSIVE. Are you suggesting I forgo sex because obviously I cannot protect myself?
-mistakes happen too, honest mistakes!

and my final point is:
A fetus at 20 weeks gestation has only about a 1-5% chance of survival. Even with medical advances today. Preterm infants, especially micro-preemies (babies born before 26 weeks gestation), have MUCH higher risks of having cerebral palsy, brain damage (due to bleeds within the ventricles of the brain), lung and heart problems, and they also have a much higher risk of death prior to age two. After age two, the risk of death is no longer there, however developmental problems may start to show, as well as physical/mental handicaps. I know this from experience as well, having delivered a micro-preemie (born at 23.5 weeks, lived for four months and then passed away due to complications of his pre-term delivery)

Before you judge, make sure you know a person and their reasons behind their actions. Before you speak "facts", make sure, that indeed, they ARE facts.

Extremely eHealthy
Over 90% of abortions are performed before 12 weeks gestation.

Of the remainder done later, reasons for aborting are more likely to include:

-inability to access earlier termination. ie if you want to stop later-term abortions, then make it easier to access early abortion.

- fetal abnormality or threat to maternal health

- not knowing you were pregnant until then (not that uncommon, although of course many women will happily maintain a pregnancy that they discover late, too)

Gah, I wish that my posts were not moved around...it confuses people...sorry folks, this was originally in the Medical Abortion forum, which is why I said opinions did not belong in that particular forum. Sorry for any confusion.
