I had a colposcopy 3 days ago, i'v had light thin brown discarge (which im aware is expected) but today some weird looking discarge came out when i peed. It was pretty gross looking, it almost looked like a mass of tissue, it was brown and thick (thick as in you could hold it) it also had what looked like dried hardened blood in it. it kinda worried me becasue i wasn't warned about it and it was pretty unusual looking. Anyone know what this could have been? i'v searched the internet and couldnt find anthing about it! Thanks

My daughter recently had a colposcopy (6 days ago) and tonight she passed something that sounds like what you had. We couldn't find anything on the web either...except for your question. I guess it is a result of the colposcopy since you both are seeing it. Try not to worry. We're callling her Gyn tomorrow and will try to remember to post if we get an answer. God bless...

Wow - I had the same thing last night after my colposcopy and cervical biopsy Friday. I'm amazed at the posts on this and other boards by women who have had large "tissue" like discharges, yet we were never told to expect this. I do feel better now knowing that this is "normal" but I wish this had been explained!

Colposcopy Discharge
I just had a colposcopy yesterday and had a huge tissue come out tonight when I went to the bathroom. It looks like tissue paper that is dyed yellow with dark blood blobs inside. I called my doctor to make sure I was ok. There was nothing on my post colposcopy sheet about this!

My experiences
I've had 2 colposcopies (about 9 months apart) and the following have occured both times and I have been told by my doctor are completely normal. Basically it is your body trying to heal from a cut (literally) and that part of your body is forming "scabs" and the skin in sloughing off...

- brownish/pink discharge
- large tissue masses (sometimes with a little blood-looking color)
- bright yellow color for the first day or so (this is because of the dye/iodine they use to stain the skin and heal the wound)
- not-so-pleasant odor

In my experience this generally lasts about a week and then slowly goes away. I would guess if I had true blood or this lasted longer than a week I would def. call my GYN. Hope this helps!

Thank you RRRRRRR!
Thank you so much for posting what your doc said about the weird tissue-like discharge. I went on a web hunt since I am experiencing these alien blobs dropping out of me post colpo and biopsy, which was 3 days ago. I came across many gals during the search who complained of the same symptom and saying the doc never warned of this...but you were the only one who actually had an explaination form the doc, and that made me feel so much better. Thanks a bunch!! Smile

I had the same thing happen to me, and after reading these posts and a bunch of others on different sites, I am a bit dismayed that these apparently normal after-effects are not routinely described to patients post-procedure. Then again, my post-colposcopy sheet was last updated in April of '99. Hopefully getting the results this week.

Thanks for all these posts! I was really worried when I had this extremely bizarre discharge that looked like skin with dried blood pieces inside that smelled gross. So disgusting! My doctor did tell me that I would have strange looking discharge but she didn't mention it would consist of tissue and blood a week after my biopsy. These posts make me feel better.

I was glad to find this. About 7 years ago, I had a colposcopy. My doctor told me that he was going to put some medicine inside me to keep me from bleeding and sent me on my way. Later that night, I had a lot of cramping and brown discharge. I felt something weird come out and went to the bathroom. I found a sack with what looked like an umbilical cord and a mass of brown and black cells attached to the cord. It smelled horrible! I showed it to my husband to see if he thought that I'd maybe been pregnant and had a miscarriage. We both agreed that this looked to be a miscarriage, and we got a box and buried the "baby" in the back yard. I'm still not certain even after reading these posts that that wasn't what it was. None of those sound exactly like what came out of me, but it sounds closer to what I experienced, rather than what my doctor said I would. Anyone else have a cord attached to the cells and a sack? I found out I was pregnant with my second child about a month later.

I am pregnant and had my colposcopy about 2 days ago. I had a thick sheet of yellow about one inch wide and one and a half inches long with some small black dots and a thin line of white mucus around the edges almost as if the doctor had left some kind of medical patch in me. I have had some pain in my lower abdomen but I have just assumed it is gas from my pregnancy. I called ask a nurse and they contacted my OBGYN. I did save the tissue sample but after the nurse had called me back she had told me it is called monsels solution and is perfectly normal.

Colposcopy
I had a colposcopy and cervical biopsy done 2 months ago and am sooo relieved that I wasn't the only one who didn't feel prepared for the recovery! My doctor told me to expect "some light darker brown than normal discharge"... they didn't tell me I'd have cramping, bleeding, nausea and vomitting. I guess my circumstances were just a little different... I ended up having a total of 5 pap smear/speculum appearances in just 2 weeks, and when I had my colposcopy, despite being on birth control, my body went into shock and forced me to have an almost 2 week "period". I was terrified and slightly frustrated with my OB-GYN... especially cuz I've loved him ever since I started seeing him! I do have a question though... it has been 2 months since I had the procedure, and I've had 2 "normal cycle" periods since, but the discharge from both of them have been a lot darker, thicker tissues discharges and I'm just wondering if anyone had that... I know that within days of the procedure that was normal, but it has happened both periods since. I'm planning on calling my gyno tomorrow but I'm having trouble sleeping and when I don't sleep, I worry! Hah, so just wondering if anyone else has any information to put my mind at ease.

thank god I found this site. I was about to go to the emergency room. I had a colposcopy 4 days ago. It is 2:00am in the morning and I just went pee. What came out of me sounds much worse then the above but I don't feel I need to go to the emergency room and feel a bit more relaxed after reading your posts and will wait to talk to the doc tomorrow. What came out of me (so sorry for the description but I think women should know in case it happens to them) is a tissue the size of my hand. Seriously! It is very thick and has lines on it. basically it is the inside wall of my vagina. My doc DID NOT tell me this would happen. If it wasn't for your posts I think I would have been in the emergency room right now!!! This is the ONLY site that I found with this topic so thank you and I think I'll go back to sleep...

colcoscopy biopsy and cervical polyp removal
wow ladies,

we need this information before we go home from the hospital and have to deal with this sort of thing alone -i had my colposcopy with biopsy and polyp removal on monday, today is friday and whilst at work (!) in the bathroom i felt a sensation and had a very dark brown-black 'material' exit when i wiped, really shocked me, so i googled it straight away when i got home, to read all your experiences, phew, glad we can share!
the lady who mentioned a 'cord' with discharge - this may be a polyp as these have stems and a 'growth' sack which are gernerally benign but can growth out of the cervix and inside the vaginal wall. My polyp was within the cervical opening and was removed on the spot at examination, although without anesthetic, and my body went into shock - i was violently sick and faint for 24 hours.

a colposcopy is not pleasant and i have been advised to 'take it easy' for a week, but the internal wounds from biopsy can realistically take 3 - 6 weeks to heal fully so take care for longer! results back in 2 weeks - good luck everyone!
