Hi, i am 43 yrs. old and have always had normal periods until about the last year. i am having problems with spotting about a week before my period. i spot if i strain to use the bathroom and i spot after sex. my obgyn did a d&c about a year ago and found nothing wrong. this month it's a little different than the normal spotting that i usually do for 3 or 4 days before i start. i am on my 8th day of spotting. i had my yearly this past week and was told everything looks good, but as soon as she did exam, i started bleeding and then stopped later. please give advice! is this hormonal? about all my obgyn says is if it bothers me she can do a hysterectomy. well why on earth would i want to do that if i don't really have to? i feel like i'm always on my period, either spotting or bleeding!

Have you had your hormone levels checked? If you are done having kids you could have your uterine lining burned.

Abnormal periods
Thanks for your reply. I have not had hormone levels checked, but I did ask my Doctor about that last week, but she didn't do any blood work. I guess I just need to request that she do so. She did mention burning the uterine lining if I wanted her to. Many years ago I had my cervix frozen twice and I'm wondering if this may have something to do with my cervix. I am currently on my 10th day of spotting. To make things worse, I received a call about my mammogram saying that I need to come back for an ultrasound.

it seems like you spot when anything goes into your cervix.
doctors can be insensitive because they're in a rush...my doctor mentioned hysterectomy to me at least four times. he looked at me funny when i said no. "why not? you have high blood pressure" i was so offended that's not a reason to have a surgery to take my ability to have kids.
i am so frustrated in bleeding all the time i m thinking about it.
i have to let the doctors do a trial and error on me to see what works for me.
60% of people on depo for 7 months have no periods and 80%of them in one year.i m on the depo and i dont like the side effects (fatigue, weight gain).
bug your doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have a P.C.P and a special gyn
