A few months ago, I discovered a lump in my mid right abdominal region. My Dr. wanted me to get an ultrasound done to make sure it wasn`t anything. I went and they said they didn`t see anything, and that maybe it was my kidney that I was feeling. Anyways, since then I have been trying to lose some weight. I have been eating healthy and working out, I`ve cut calories, quit smoking, am drinking more water and less coffee...and I haven`t been able to lost 1 pound. My right side of my stomach is bigger than the left and I have terrible gas all the time. I am passing gas close to 100 times a day. I am so frustrated and don`t know what to do. Should I go back to the Dr. and tell him that I want a second look? I`m not "overweight" or anything (5`2" 128 pounds), I have just gained 8 pounds in a year and have a wedding coming up next January. Please help!

Especially eHealthy
congratulations on the upcoming wedding; yours? Anyway, 5'2" and 128 pounds is a good healthy size. You have also done quite a bit to have a healthy lifestyle - that will help a lot in the long run.
You state you felt a mass in the right upper abdomen, but it wasn't picked up on US. It is very easy to feel the edge of the liver in that area in some people. The kidney is actually posterior (in the back), in the retroperitonial space. It is protected by the rib cage. It would be very difficult to palpate, even in very thin persons. Distended loops of bowel can sometimes be felt, but they come and go, as the gas passes through the segment. Flatulance can have many causes and be a very significant problem socially.
You should discuss your concerns with your physician. He/she can do a thorough exam, possibly repeat the US (or suggest a different set of tests), or even possibly set up a referral to a GI specialist. There are treatments for flatulance and since it is quite concerning to you, you should look into it further. Good luck.

protruding stomach
Hi living1,

If you had a strong kick under lower rib up to a few years ago, so liver may be bleeding.

If not some displacement of guts or creating a lump can make inflated guts and protruded stomach. Massage of stomach may be of help.
p.s. I was using Ceragen.
