My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on April 29, 2010, I had forgotten that I had missed a birth control pill the day or two before, and was late on taking the next one. I started my period the following day (April 30, 2010). Two days ago on May 8 my lower abdomen started to cramp and I had very light pink spotting during that day. My stomach has continued to cramp for the past 3 days and now my nipples are very tender. I am wondering if I could possibly be pregnant. I took a home pregnancy test today (May 10), however it has only been 11 days since we had unprotected sex so I dont know if the test would have been accurate. Any answers will help. Thanks!

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

If you had unprotected sex and the periods came as expected the next day, then the pregnancy test is accurate. You are not pregnant.

However if after sex you had vaginal bleeding which did not correspond to your periods and now you have cramps and tender breast, then you need to rule out STD, infection, PCOS and pregnancy. Then the ideal way to do is to take the test on the due date.

Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist once. Hope this helps. Take care!
