Hi, I have been having lower abdomen pain for quite a few months, and stupidly didnt go to the drs to get it checked out. In around April i had a normal period stopped for 3 days and then had another period. Then it righted itself to every 4 weeks again. Last month i had 2 periods in 1 month. I also have a copper iud in which has been in for 9 years, it is a 10 year one. I plucked up the courage to go to the drs, and she done a swab test, i am awaiting the results. I am absoloutly petrified i have cervical cancer. I havenot had a smear test for around 4 years but have now got one booked for next week. I also have it running through my mind that because i have left it it has probably spread. I feel ok in myself, just the abdominal pain which i thought was trapped wind and the irregular bleeding. On the plus side i do not bleed after sex but have had a few times during sex where it has hurt which i presumed was maybe he had hit the coil. The dr said she could not see the coil but when i had a coil check before they said the strings have curled up so i wouldnt feel them anyway. The dr didnt seem to be very interested about the coil and when i asked about cervical cancer she said she could not rule it out. Has anyone else had these symptoms, i would really appreciate any advice.

IUD, can be a reason for irregular menstrual periods, like spotting or bleeding between periods, but that usually happens at the beginning of its use.
There can be noncancerous growths within womb walls, known as uterine fibroids, causing bleeding between periods, pelvic pain during sexual intercourse, low back pain that does not go away, and urinary problems.
Cervical polyps, small, soft, growths that protrude from the mouth of the cervix, can be another reason for irregular bleeding, too.
Cancer of genital organs (cervix, womb, tubes) must be taken in consideration.
Usually, when menstrual irregularity happens for shorter period like in your case there is no serious reason.
This could be a hormonal imbalance due to stress or thyroid gland disorder.

Hi, I have been back to the doctors who said the swab test was clear. I am now waiting for the cervical smear test to be done.
I have been thinking about when i had the irregular periods. I know the first time it happened i was under quite a lot of stress at the time, and then they regulated themselves but then when i had 2 periods in l month last month i was under alot of stress then also. So, i dont know if that has caused that. It doesnt explain the lower abdominal pain/pelvic pain, sorry not sure what the difference is, also the sharp pain sometimes when i have sex. If it is cervical cancer would anything at all show up on the swab test i had done?
Also if the copper iud

Also if the copper iud was out of date, it has been in 9 years and i was told it could be in for 10 years would this cause the problem?
My doctor doesnt seem to want to answer any questions i have, she just tells me to see what the smear test shows. Also when she felt my abdomen and done an internal she said she could not feel a mass, so that is a good sign isn't it?
