TO DR Nikola..please read.your opinion please Posted: 06-23-08 11:49am
I'm a 43yr old female , I had a abd hernia
repair in 2005 with a mesh patch used,
recently I have unexplained abd
symptoms..first of all let me mention when
I had the surgery within 3 weeks it was
infected the suture line would not close
and and an internal abd suture that was
suppose to desolve kept sticking out, then
that was removed ,I was put on antiobitocs
and it closed, reccently I have had
unexplained various abd syptoms within the
past year , a low b12 so low I need to
give myself b12 injections every 2 weeks I
have had and abd US they haven't called
with the results, I am fatuigued extremley
blaoted esp after meals, excuse me but
extrememly foal smelling gas..I can't
button any of my pants anymore..my abd is
so huge esp after meals I look at least
6mo. pregnant I feel as it will pop..I
have various bowel movements, some yellow,
some reg in color, but mostly flaky and
diarrhea and upper abd pain, I wake up
every morning, with the need to have a
BM..and early I have at least 4-5..the
pain is not bad or bm's if I don't eat but
I am becoming depressed and this is no way
to live..I also have indigestion in am
before meals (ON AN EMPTY STOAMCH!)..and
after heartburn, and my stomach feels like
it's on fire after eating..my doctor has
given me an RX for flagyl ,he's thinking
it maybe and intestinal colitis, of some
kind,or IBS... but hey ,this has been
going on for 6 mo the flagyl did not
work..then he ordered an ultrasound and
from the labs seen my b12 was so low, I
have it seems ia disfigured belly, a bump
where the surgery was and off to the left,
the size of an egg.that's where it hurts,
when it hurts)..I have nauseau , at
times..I feel this is all so coincidental
and started surfing the internet and found
this re: mesh patches!! it 's
unbelievable..I think there may be a
connection., that or from surfing I have
s/s of ovarian cancer YIKES (cuz I
haven't had a gyn check in 2 yrs.) HELP is
there a doc out there that can give his
opnion asap.! suffering. Also.. if I may
add aprox 2 mo ago the patch blew the
Hernia returned but is reducible , pops
out on the other side,( before the mesh it
was the right side) when bending over or
lifting, having bm.Iniatially it first
popped out again aprox 2mo agao, when I was
in a sitting and bent over to paint my
toes, it was painful hard to stand , I put
pressure on it and continued to rub the
area and push until it went in, I was very
sore in the area for few days, when I have
abd pain it's to the LUQ and mid
epigastric, and umblical area .The pain
and stool is unbearable in the morning,
and I'm beginnning to have no appetite
afraid of the extreme uncomfortable
blaoting.,after meals, and pain.
Hernia is basically a disorder of the
abdominal wall not of the intestines.
Hernia can become intestinal disorder if
the intestinal part stick and its blood
circulation get compromised
(incarceration). I realized that you had
complications after hernia's surgical
repair but it is not clear if old hernia
returned or another one showed up.
Your digestive symptoms (diarrhea, bloated
stomach, fatigue, abdominal pain...) are
probably not due to Vit.B12 deficit but
opposite is possible. Some digestive
disorders (chronic atrophic gastritis and
any malabsorption disorder) can cause
Vit.B12 deficit which is manifested with
anemia and neurolopathy.
Have you ever made colonoscopy and
gastroscopy?
Have you ever made some stool examinations
for intestinal infection or
malabsorption?
Have you made Helicobacter pilory
serology?

DR. Nikola thank you Posted: 06-24-08 12:58pm
I've seen my PCP today he has referred me
to a gastroenetrologist and surgeon of the
same, he's sending my lab results and US
results and yes I've had stool samples
in the past whicn were neg, but my MD is
wanting more today he ordered , stool for
wbc's, C' diff and culture...heliobacter
my nephew has had in the past, a, but I
have never been tested, aprox 4 yr's ago I
had an endoscopy which showed mild
gastritis..my PCP MD claim the endo might
be repeated and poss colonoscopy.per the
Gastro MD. Thank u so much ..I have an
apoint with the Gi MD ..July 2nd I hope
he can figure it out.. my Md said" HE
don't think it is do to the mesh patch,
but he'll let the GI MD decide that.".hmmm
thankU again , I hope I 'm feeling better
soon, ohhh what is an "anechogenic lesion
in the peri pelvis near the right
kidney,it reccommended 3 mo follow up.
(that also showed on ultrasound )with no
marked hydronephorisis.? thank u again for
llistening, Lisa .>Michigan.
That "anechogenic lesion in the peri
pelvis near the right kidney" should be
evaluated with CT-scan or MRI to get a
better image and idea what it could
represent.
