I have a swollen firm lump just above the back of my right ankle, on lower calf, is red around lump area not hot, and not real sore on lump should I be concerned?

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Presence of a red discoloration as described could be due to infections of the skin or due to conditions like erythematous nodosum.

You might consult a doctor for a physical examination and a few tests (CBC with differential, ESR, etc, which might help to diagnose the exact cause.

the spot
this is not real red just the whole top of the skin on the back of the LOWER calf just above ankle, with about a quarter size lump very firm, not hot and is slightly tender when pressed no bite mark of any kind showing anywhere on or around it
