I am 17 and have always been regular for
the most part, I started my period when I
was 11 almost 12. My cycle has changed a
little like when I first started I got it
every 6 weeks, then I went to every 30
days, then back to every 6 weeks. I had
sex for the first time in june, and have
been active like once to twice a month
untill the end of november. I have always
had really bad cramps to the point that I
couldn't move or function at all. My
doctor put me on a few different pills, at
different times, to try to help with the
pain but none helped. She said I should
try birthcontrol (she doesn't know I have
had sex), my parent (also doesn't know I
have had sex) doesn't want me on birth
control because it can cause problem with
getting pregant later in life. I want
children and I also will adopt. So I
don't care if I can't have any children of
my own. My parent (not related to me)
also had bad cramps and knows what I am
going through. She says I need to get
use to the pain, but I can't. Do any of
you know how to help with the pain??
Another question I have is I haven't had
sex since mid november and got my period
about a week later in december, it was
like normal heavy bleeding and bad cramps.
I am about 1 week late to when I had it
in december. I don't want to over react
because sometimes that can also delay your
period. I am kinda scard though. Should
I be woried?? I don't want to ask my
parent to take me for a test because I
don't her to know I have had sex I know
she would be very mad and not trust me
again. Is there anyway I can tell my
self. I haven't had any signs like the
ones you learn about in healt or like the
ones I learned about in a parenthood class
I took last year. Any idea's???
Thanks

Hi there.
First thing,u need 2 give the bc pills
some time to get in2 ur system because
they take a while 2 kick in-im on the
progesteron only pill & dont have
periods.Being on the pill does not affect
ur chances of every having a child so dont
b under the illusion that it does.
Secondly,so ur late on ur period? U may
need 2 take a test because other then the
usual symptoms-sore breasts,morning
sickness etc. There's no other way of
knowing. But,if u have an irregular cycle
anyway,it cud b down 2 this.R their any
clinics near u which do free pregnany
tests?
I think ur doctor isnt very good if u need
2 come here 2 ask about how to deal with
the pain-shouldnt she/he b getting to the
bottom of the problem.U shud try femminax
cos theyre really effective (dunno if they
sell them in the usa) if not,try ibuprofen
or paracetamol.A nice hot bath helps to
reduce those horrible cramps as does a
heated pad or hot water bottle which u can
put on ur tummy.
Best wishes & feel better soon

My parent doesn't want me on bc, I want on
it. My doctor has tried me on at least 10
different levels of pain killers, I even
got knocked out once by the er people. I
have had test done and everything came
back normal (for the pain).
With my late period problem, I don't
thing I am pregant because I had my
regular heavy pain full period after the
last time I had sex even thought it was a
week late. This month I whould have
gotten it on the 6th or 7th from when I
had my late one in december. I haven't
had sex since the middle of november.
I'm not gaing any weight, I feel fine, i'm
just late.
Are then any kinds of over the counter
bc pills or something like them I can get
so my parent doesn't have to know and I
can maybe get rid of the pain, my doctor
has said bc might help with the pain. I
have a friend that got bad cramps and she
got bc and it helped..

I too have had extremely painful periods
since the age of 12. I dealt with them
until 17 when I got on bc pills- it was
the only thing that helped. When I got
off of bc pills at age 20 my pain came
back worse than ever. They finally did
surgery to see if I had endometriosis, and
I did. Once they removed it I was so much
better and didn't need bc pills anymore.
I know how frustrating the pain is.
Another thing that would sort of help me
during the painful times was a hot bath.
I could never find the right pain killers
to help, and all I would do is end up
taking too many of them which of course
isn't good. As far as your parents saying
you can't have kids later in life from bc
pills- I have never heard of that. I was
on them for 6 years and got pregnant
within 2 months after discontinuing. You
may want to look into that more.

Also, I became sexually active at 17 and
it was hard for me to tell my mom that I
wanted to be on bc pills- but she knew my
situation and how bad my pain was, so my
sexual experinces wern't even a question
in the matter. I really only wanted them
for the pain of my periods. Just make
sure you use condoms if you arn't on the
pill. Anyway, look into some
endometriosis websites. Maybe you can see
if your symptoms are similar to those with
endo, I had to self diagnose myself first
then tell the doctor what test I wanted-
pretty sad huh!!

Just when you go to the doctor talk to
your doc alone you have the right the doc
can tell your parent that the pc pill will
help your cramps and they do they helped
me some and my sister in law who is 16 and
her doc said that that was the only thing
to help the pain and it worked !!!!! But
your parent will hopefully listen to the
doc and think of you!

I am 17 myself.. I go through very heavy
painful periods... Ones where I cant walk
or breathe at times... I am not saying
what age I became sexual active at but you
should try the bc... Bc pills cannot make
you not have kids... I know people who
have been in it for like 20 years and had
a kid... Depo now is a different story...
You have to wait like ever before you get
pregnet but eh whatever..... Let me tell
you another thing... You can be a virgin
and still be on bc... Bc helps out with
cramps and stuff... So tell your parents
that... If they dont like it... You can
get them yourself...

Hi first of all let me say being on the
pill does not affect your chances of
getting pregnant when u r older, secondly
you could try taking evening primrose oil
capsule(one a day) for your cramps it is
brilliant, I used to have really bad
period pains and this helped me also
exercise can prevent you from having bad
periods, it helps to release endorphins
which are the bodies natural
painkillers.As for the irregularity of
your periods you should see your doctor
and let him or her know that you are
sexually active they can't help you if
they don't have all the facts, don't be
embarrassed your'e not going to tell them
something they haven't heard before and
will no doubt hear again.Hope everything
works out.

Some Advice Posted: 02-07-04 16:50pm
If there is a local planned parenthood
near you, go there!!!! You do not need
parental concent to be put on birth
control. Everything that happens there,
is completely confidential. You just have
to go for a check-up and the doctor there
will put you on the pill. My best friend
has been going there for 4 years now, and
her visits are free, but she only pays $10
for pills, that not bad!!!

My doctor wants me to go on the pill b/c
she said it will help with the pain and
might even help me gain a few pounds (i
eat like a pig but only am 103-105lbs).
It's my parent who doesn't want me on the
pill. One of my best friends just got
ont he patch and so I reopened the topic
of bc pills and I didn't get anywhere.
My one best friends mom even offered to
get them and give them to me b/c she has
seen me in pain, but if my parent found
them I would get in so much trouble. I
just want to get rid of the pain. She
says to get use to it, but I think if
there is a way out of it the I should be
loud to make my on choice. I just don't
know how to tell her that. I hate getting
told no or fighting with adults.... Any
idea's???

Well, maybe you should have your doctor
talk to your parent about the pill alone.
Because you will not be on the pill for
sexual reasons, only for pain. I think
if your doctor explained it to your parent
carefully, they will understand that you
need it. If it is endometriosis it can
be very very painful. But before
deciding if you want it cut out know this:
you can only get it cut out a couple of
times before doctors will start pushing
for a full hysterectomy. But if the pain
is unbearable, then you may want to get it
cut out. The right bc pill can help
greatly. If you cannot convince your
parent, then have your doctor do it. I
hope it works out for you!
