So a couple weeks ago some relatives of mine came in from Florida, and so while they were here my cousin's 7 year old daughter followed me everywhere, and was sharing water and stuff with me. Anyways here's where it gets crappy. She gave me mono. So now here I am, my entire neck and throat along with the back of my tongue are inflamed. I'm tired out of my mind, but am in such horrible pain I can't sleep. Even swallowing my own spit is unbearable. I've managed to force myself to eat ice cream and stuff and drink water. But its unbearable I can barely tolerate even a little bit of food. My dr told me to go ahead and take childrens tylenol meltaways(because i can't swallow anything solid), but it isn't helping. I was given unisom meltaways to help me sleep, but I took them 7 hours ago and still am awake. Its so miserable I was up all night last night crying because I was so miserable.

Anyways thanks for reading. Sad

Thats awful.

For the sore throat, I recommend popsicles instead of ice cream. Ice cream is milk based and can in turn cause some phlegm which can make you want to cough/clear your throat and that is ouchy!

Also, drink lots of juice if possible.

I hope you feel better soon.

thanks, only problem with popsicles though, is it burns to swallow the juice. But thats the only thing I can really eat. I'm starting to feel worse from the ice cream, popsicle, broth, jello, pudding diet.

I know, I just want it to end! My mom went out a little while to pick me up ensure and protein shakes and such. More tylenol too and liquid benedryl. So hopefully I'll feel a little better. Due to my diet for the last few days, i haven't been feeling too good on top of the mono. My whole body feels sick. I've been really lethargic. But am having trouble falling asleep due to the pain and being uncomfortable.

I'm sorry that must be awful! I woke up with a sore throat today and it's been extremely painful and aggravating so i can only imagine how much having mono would suck.

So i went back to the dr today, saw a different doctor. All my pain seems to be on one side, which made me think its probably something else. A more experienced dr checked me over and said it wasn't mono. I have a terrible infection in my throat. The reason I can't sleep is from the intense pain I'm in. He told me I probably have an abscess of puss in there. So he put me on amoxicillion. Hopefully I'll get better now. I also dropped 4 lbs in the last 2 days.

Ugh I remember that pain. Last year I went through a phase of getting tonsillitis a lot & once it turned into a peritonsillar abscess. I couldn't swallow anything & ended up being unable to open my mouth more than about an inch. It was horrible.. in the end I went to hospital & they gave me antibiotics through an IV, which made the abscess go down a lot quicker than a course of tablets. I was lucky in that I didn't need to have it drained. I had my tonsils removed earlier this year to stop it happening again.

I hope you feel better soon & the antibiotics get to work quickly.

are you sure you didnt get that from the mono, because mono can only be diagnosed with a blood test... so you doctor would know if you had mono or not, theres no gray area... so if he took blood and sayd you have mono, you have mono, you just might have got that from the mono... when i had mono my throat got all nasty and white, and pussy and was mainly on the right side... its horrible =[ i was in the hospital because i couldnt eat or drink anything

well my blood test came back and it wasn't mono, just a terrible infection. the dr I saw basically said that it was a sore throat and because my immune system didn't fight it off, it turned into a terrible infection. After a couple days on antibiotics it started getting better, and i'm back to eating. Smile though i lost like 5 lbs in the process

Ughh, I am so sorry. You must be feeling terrible Sad However, it is good news at least that it isn't mono because you should hopefully feel better much faster with antibiotics than you would if you had mono. You can feel sick for months with mono. Feel better!!!
