Value to Others

June 8th, 2012 by RabbiMitch63
To the whole world you may be just one person, but to one person you may just be the whole world.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. Pericles

I saw this years ago and fell in love with the magnitude of this statement. I have learned that I may never know the impact I have had in the life of another person. What I needed to learn is that I have an impact and do not need the affirmation from the person I have impacted, but rather I need to affirm my value daily.

In my work as a Sober Coach and Sober Rabbi, I spend a great amount of time working with clients and congregants in helping them find their spiritual connectedness to their inherent value and worthiness. I know from my own journey through addiction and recovery that my value was robbed and returned based upon me finding a God/Higher Power, hope and faith. I know today that I have true value as a person with integrity, honor, compassion, faith and kindness.

How do I know this you ask? For me, I know this by the fact that I have not felt a need to use any mood or mind altering substance for nearly 24 years, one day at a time. Whatever that substance may be; alcohol, drugs, food, sex, gambling, money, shopping, etc., has the power to remove me from my value and worthiness. Finding my spiritual path has restored me unconditionally.

I can help you heal and repair that part of you that is lost or empty inside you. My prayer for you today is that you affirm and feel your value and know that you probably are going to save someone's life today in a way that you will never know
