Love's over brimming mystery joins death and life. It has filled my cup of pain with joy. Rabindranath Tagore
The debate has raged on for centuries - Is the cup half full or half empty? How negative to be half of anything! My cup is always full. My attitude may be half empty at times, but my cup runneth over with blessings beyond measure. Allow me to share some with you: Waking in the morning, my health, my family's health, my child's happiness, my friends, my work, my faith, my compassion, my humor, my joy, writing these messages, having you in my life, helping others, daily doses of gratitude, always smiling, being teachable, having dreams, having the courage to fail and seeing the success in that and my list goes on.
When I was active in my addiction, I had no cup on most days and when I did it was filled with anger, rage, self loathing, cynicism, sarcasm, doubt, hopelessness and abject negativity. With your and God's (whatever that means) help, today my cup is filled with my life, faith, hope, kindness, prayer, meditation, acceptance, patience, tolerance, love and the understanding that the fullness of my life does not mean perfection. I experience as do you, death, illness, economic strife, marital discord, illness, disappointment and more, but they are all part of the fullness of my cup. My cup is not half of anything; it is 100% of my life.
As a counselor providing addiction counseling as well as counseling to people who are seeking something meaningful, a key focus of my effort with them is to begin seeing the blessings in all that is going on in their lives. I have learned and share with them that it is no longer about negatives and positives. It just "is" and my focus is on the acceptance and integration of what is rather than fighting, denying and resenting it.
Every minute of every day adds to the fullness of my cup as God keeps presenting me with new and exciting opportunities to learn, grow, help others and serve my community. What a gift that is for me!
My prayer for you today is that you see the fullness of your cup and enjoy all the blessings you have while seeking new ones to keep your cup overflowing.
