Asking for Help

June 13th, 2012 by lifeofthedifferentlyabled

Some years ago, I attended a youth retreat for disabled teenagers. It was there that I met a young woman who had recently become disabled. And it was as if her, I realized something: Im comfortable asking for help.

This is a skill, that I take for granted. I am needed help to do various things at various times in my life. Some of which, I initially need help with two later in life be able to complete independently.

Learning How to Ask for Help
I feel like learning how to ask for help is an art form. Asking for help is delicate in its art form, first one must recognize that they do in fact need help and be able to accept that within themselves. Then, realizing the areas that you need help with. This is the part I struggle with especially, because I learned to do tasks that in my younger years I couldn’t. So now it becomes a matter of balance. When do I ask for help? When do I try first before asking for help? Does anyone else find asking for a social challenge? If so, how did you or do you overcome this, any advice for asking for help? Do you have any advice to help others in this area?
