Juice: Simply, quickly!

June 6th, 2012 by JuicyLucyJuice

Oh its a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the workmen are making a right old racket outside my apartment! But that won’t spoil the day! Happy Wednesday juicykins!

Some days you wake up and cannot seem to get organised, you are going round in circles trying to get things ready, trying to do five things at once and the time escapes you without knowing how the last 30 minutes have passed! This was me this morning! So I neededa quick and easy juice, one that literally took me 5 minutes to prepare and juice and decanter. I succeeded AND the added bonus is that it tasted great. Fresh, clean and with a hint of sweetness that won’t spike my insulin first thing in the morning.

Courgette was the main ingredient today. Courgette? Yes, you know Zuchini, the green veg that looks like it could be a cucumber, but with a very different taste. Now courgette and I did not start off on the best foot, I hated it growing up, however over the past few years I have come to really like it. I initially thought juicing it would provide a bitter flavour and not much else, but I have been pleasantly surprised time and time again with its simple, clean, fresh flavour that really goes well with almost all ingredients.

Courgette is relatively moderate source offolates, which are important in cell division and DNA synthesis. When taken adequately before pregnancy, it can help prevent neural tube defects in the fetus. It is a very good source of potassium, an important heart friendly electrolyte; helps reduce blood pressure and heart rates by countering effects of sodium.Their peel is good source of dietary fiber that helps reduce constipation and offers some protection against colon cancers.

Rich in vitamin A andFurthermore, they are rich in flavonoid poly-phenolic antioxidants such ascarotenes, lutein and zeaxanthin. These compounds help scavenge harmful oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) from the body that play a role in aging and various disease process.

Fresh pods, indeed, are good source of anti-oxidantvitamin-C. andthey are good in B-complex group of vitamins like thiamin, pyridoxine, riboflavin and minerals like iron, manganese, phosphorus, zinc and potassium.

So, no excuses of time limitations, these ingredients will be prepared, and juiced and in the glass before you can say Juicy Lucy!

Enjoy Juicykins! JL x
