A close shave that leaves your face smooth is easy to achieve. Always shave with your face wet. The hairs absorb water and swell, making your job of shaving easier and closer. Prepare your face for shaving by exfoliating your face to remove dead skin cells and to help open the pores of the skin. Then lubricate the skin to aid in the movement of the razor across the skin.
Shave using short, light strokes in the direction of the grain of the hair. If you have some difficult areas, align your strokes across the grain. One common error made during the task of shaving is shaving against the grain. This method will provide a closer shave but not without leaving a lot of irritation to the skin. Rinse your razor often to keep the blades clean of hair.
Finish your shave by splashing the skin with cool or cold water. The temperature change encourages the pores of your skin to close and tighten the facial skin. Blot your face dry with a clean towel and apply an alcohol-free aftershave lotion. As a final step, take the opportunity to moisturize your face to help it retain the water absorbed in the shower.
