Daily Bite: Get Your Body in Suit Shape for Summer

June 14th, 2011 by eHealthGuide

Over the winter, when you're bundled up in layers of clothing, it's easy to let good habits slide and pack on a few pounds. With summer approaching, though, you want to look your best in an appealing swimsuit. Start up your healthy habits as soon as possible so that you can enjoy a thinner, more toned body during the warmer months.

Start a daily exercise routine. If you want to lose a few pounds and tighten up your body, you'll need to start working out daily. You'll want to perform stretches and exercises that strengthen and tighten your abdominal region, your calves and your thighs especially. Consider a daily routine consisting of calf raises, leg extensions, lunges, crunches and planks. You can also work on tightening your arms with basic exercises such as push ups and bicep curls.

Eat right. Exercise is only half of the formula for a swimsuit-ready body. However, eating right doesn't involve starving yourself. Start by cutting out the sweets and soda. Eat everything else in moderation. Eat three well-balanced meals a day and always have a healthy snack on hand, such as fruit, veggies, yogurt, or low-fat crackers and cheese, so that you're not tempted by chips or other fattening treats.
