People who have been reading here a while remember that I appeared on the CNN HLN Nancy Grace show, talking about the district prosecutor, Ray Gricar, from central Pennsylvania who disappeared into thin air in 2005. His body was never found, but his car was found next to a restaurant on a river and his laptop was on the bottom of the river. At the time I thought maybe he tried to disappear, and I thought maybe he had something to hide, like an alternative lifestyle or dirty secret (I thought maybe he was a pedophile and got caught but didn’t write that because, um, I hold myself to the highest journalistic standards). Now assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky at Penn State has been outed as a molester of little boys, and it turns out that another coach caught him raping a boy in the showers, and told head coach Joe Paterno, who did nothing more than tell him not to bring his boys around Penn State anymore. Well as you might imagine they’ve got some pretty pissed off moms in central Pennsylvania these days.
Interestingly, my go to news source, England’s The Daily Fail (oops, I mean Mail) is “reporting” that Gricar was also the prosecutor back in 2002 when another case was reported to which he apparently had a confession from the Assistant Coach. For some reason he did not pursue the case. The Fail also reports that he said he had a “bad taste in his mouth” about the Penn State program back then. So maybe pedophilia was involved, but not him. Maybe someone felt they had to go to extraordinary efforts to preserve the beloved Penn State football program after he got a hold of some evidence that could lead to a conviction (maybe that’s why his government issue laptop went sleeping with the fishes, if not Ray as well).
Hat tip to Sally.
